“The Saints Destined Likeness”
Likeness to Christ is the ultimate destiny of the saints in Glory. Justification is the beginning of that destination and the journey ends in glorification. The Holy Spirit begins His work within the believer in conforming us into the image of Christ and those sensitive to His inward working, pray along the words of the great old Hymn, “Oh! to be like Thee, Blessed Redeemer…” – Thomas Chisholm
This prayer will be fulfilled for John said, “Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.” – I John 3:2 Those saved will have a new body when He returns which will be incorruptible, immortal, and invincible. The coming new body will never grow old, never get sick, and never suffer from sins contamination.
Imagine the sights in Glory! Imagine the streets of gold and the pearly gates of the Celestial City! Imagine seeing the wonders of the world from whence He came! Most of all, imagine seeing Him as He is and fully appreciating the beauty of His glory for, we will be like Him!
For now, we sing, “Oh to be like Him” but then our prayer for likeness becomes reality. Our worship and praise will be totally unsoiled for we no longer will be hindered by these corrupt bodies and fallen nature. Perhaps then our song will be along the following lines: “Praise God I’m now like Him, I see His dear face. I’ll praise Him forever, because of His grace. I have a new body, I’m healthy and well. Forever and ever, His glories I’ll tell.”
